Passing Figure (1999) Single channel video, stereo. Digitized film, animation, sound.

An early work, originally composed for 4 x 3 CRT display, then later recomposed in 16 x 9 HD. The passing figure of a woman is an extraction from Walter Ruttmann's Berlin, Symphony of a Great City (1927), material I later reused in a very different treatment for Crossing, Berlin 1927. Passing Figure has been exhibited with some frequency and success; it won Best of Category, Dynamic Media, in the BitByBit All Digital Exhibition, Manitou Springs, CO, 2000, and Eleanor Heartney, Contributing Editor for Art in America, included it in her guest-curated national exhibition A Question of Faith. University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA, October 1 - October 26, 2001.
