Tryst (2013)

I began work on Tryst with the title Iphigenia in mind – the wall entombing the female figure, the wind pushing a bank of clouds across a black sky, the mocking dance of the sailor-suited figure, the muffled drum cadence – all these elements were suggested to me by Iphigenia’s fated betrayal and death at the hand of Agamemnon, her father.  But as the piece began to come together, I saw that it could be taken to generally reference the idea of “tryst,” usually taken to mean a rendezvous between lovers, but in this case perhaps not.
